How to use the ISO image format

来源:未知 作者:admin 人气: 时间:2014-02-07

HP OpenView has made a decision to use an ISO image format on some of our products. The ISO image is not a new format to the industry, however, this is a new addition to the formats that OpenView products use. Some products will continue to use a TAR or ZIP format. The product that you are about to download is in an ISO image format.

Like a .zip or .tar file, an ISO image encapsulates a collection of files. The main difference is that an ISO image contains specific information about how those files are laid out on a CD-ROM. After you have acquired an ISO image, you can access its files immediately, even before you burn it onto a CD-ROM.

On the Windows platform, to use the image directly from your hard drive without burning a physical disc you will need to install 3rd party software that is capable of mounting ISO. Popular software programs like Roxio's Disk Image Loader, Smart-Projects IsoBuster, EZB Systems' UtraISO, MagicISO, Nero's Image Drive and Microsoft's free application Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP enable you to mount disc image files in a virtual drive as if they were physical discs in a physical drive.

On an HP-UX/UNIX/Linux platform, to use the image directly from your hard drive without burning a physical disc you will need to do the following:

HP-UX

nohup pfs_mountd &
nohup pfsd &
pfs_mount -o xlat=UNIX pathToIso mountPoint

Linux

mount -o loop pathToIso mountPoint

Solaris

lofiadm -a pathToIso
mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/lofi/1 mountPoint

To unmount the ISO image do the following:

HP-UX

pfs_umount

Linux

umount mountPoint

Solaris

umount mountPoint
